Kilkenny Youth Orchestra

Practice parts

Autumn 2024

What's on our music stands

Since it was founded in 1988, the Kilkenny Youth Orchestra has given concerts throughout Ireland from north to south, as well as regular performances at home in Kilkenny.
The orchestra aims to give instrumentalists from 12 to 18 years of age the opportunity to play the standard orchestral repertoire.
Players come from Kilkenny and surrounding counties, and rehearse on Saturdays from October to May.
Here is a video of our May 2023 concert in Kilkenny.
The orchestra has made many international exchanges with other youth orchestras, which has brought it to Paderborn in Germany, the Hague, Berlin, Stavanger in Norway, Hamburg and Firenze.
Nearer home, the orchestra has played in the past few years in London and Birmingham, and – in summer 2022 – in Paris.

Auditions for new members are held in September each year.

Here are some sample audition pieces from the past few years
to give an idea of the standard required:

Violin    Cello    D Bass

Flute    Clarinet

Trumpet    Fr Horn    Trombone
